Vincent Kompany Online video Score: five / 5
Vincent Kompany thinks that because of the vacancies created in the squad, his boss Manuel Pellegrini had no choice, but, to try and grab the services of some new players during the transfer window.
The City management released quite a few players this summer and sold quite a few as well leaving a lot of spots vacant in the first team squad.
To make up for all those off loads however, they spent a lot towards the end of the transfer window and signed as many as 5 players.
The most notable of those signings was Eliaquim Mangala whom the Champions bought at a transfer fee of over 30 million Pounds.
Frank Lampard’s signing has also caught some eyes.
Bacary Sagna has come in for free having been released by the Gunners.
So, some prominent players have made their way at the Etihad Stadium and according to Kompany, the signings were essential given the number of players who went out at the end of the previous season.
In the words of the club skipper, “The fact is that we lost a few players who used to hold key positions and we had to bring in replacements for them. There was no other option.”
Apart from making new signings, the Sky Blues have also extended the contracts of a 3-4 players of which Kompany is the one.
When asked about that, the Belgian centre-half said, “For me to sign the new deal was sort of easy, but, what made me happy was that some of the other established players also penned the extension. It has sent out a strong message.”
The other players who have signed contract extension at City of late are Samir Nasri (France), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast) and David Silva (Spain).
