Kompany to remain with squad

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany will remain with the Belgium squad despite suffering from an injury in a friendly match against Portugal. The Belgium manager Roberto Martinez said that he opted not to replace Vincent Kompany as he feels that he is an important member of the team.

 

He said that Vincent Kompany has leadership skills and also the experience of playing at the highest level and that he will be an important asset for the team.

The defender is set to be available for the final group game of the campaign where Belgium will be facing England.

Roberto Martinez said that he will not be changing any member of the squad and that he will be sticking to the original 23 players.

He said that they have received some encouraging medical reports and that the player should be available for the final match of the group stage.

The Belgium coach said that Vincent Kompany is not an important player on the pitch but also off the pitch. He said that it is always a good idea to have a player of this quality and experience in the team as it helps motivate the team.

He said that the World Cup is a big competition and that Belgium needs to have their best players if they want to go far in the tournament. He said that they have started the competition well in the match against Panama and that they will be hoping to continue on the same trend.

He admitted that there will be tougher games in the competition and this is when having a player such as Vincent Kompany in the team can be helpful. He said that there is a good team spirit within the team and that they have had some great support as well from the fans.
