NO REST FOR CITY
The Manchester city defender Vincent Kompany has said that the club will not be looking to rest on its laurels after it won the first Premier league title for 44 years beating the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea. Vincent Kompany has said that the target for Manchester city this season is to achieve even greater success in the form of the Champions League title. He, however, is aware of the fact that it takes a lot of effort and quality in order to be successful in the European competition. Manchester city may not have made any noteworthy signings in the transfer window, but Vincent Kompany reckons that the squad is extremely strong to compete on all fronts.
Vincent Kompany has become one of the important members of the squad since his £ 12 million move from Belgium four years ago. He was recently handed the captaincy from Carlos Tevez by the manager Roberto Mancini. This has made him assume an even bigger role within the team, but he has said that he has not allowed the recent successes to go to his head. Such is his importance with the Manchester city squad that the club recently gave him a new six-year contract that made him one of the highest paid defenders in the world.
“You can walk around thinking you’re a winner, but if you don’t train like a winner or if you don’t do everything in your life to maintain being a winner, it just stops there. Just after we won the league, I was thinking, ‘I don’t want this to have an influence on me’, because before I won the league I didn’t think I could win it. So I prepared twice as much as others, I’d like to believe, and did everything to win it. It was an obsession for us and myself, so I hope we just keep that obsession,” said Vincent Kompany.
