Vincent Kompany is confident that Manchester City will make some two or three world-class signings

After finishing last season without any major title, defender Vincent Kompany is confident that Manchester City will make some two or three world-class signings in this transfer window in order to reclaim the title once again.

Since UEFA has lifted a number of the FFP regulations, City are free to spend as they please in this transfer window. They have already shown their ambition by making a £ 40 million offer for Raheem Sterling, while more English players are expected to arrive in order to compensate for the loss of players like James Milner and Frank Lampard.

Kompany had a disappointing season last time around by his high standards. The Belgian defender is keen to address this issue and he hopes that the niggling injuries that he faced last season are beyond him. As he enters into his 30s, Kompany will know that staying injury free is not a luxury but a necessity if he is to prolong his career as a top defender. City have never won back-to-back league titles, but they also come back with a vengeance after just losing one. This was a case during the 2013-14 season and Kompany reckons that the blues can repeat it once again.

“I think it is key to the success of any top club.It is maybe not always the amount of players that come but I think every top club in the world will be looking to add two or three quality players to make the team that little bit stronger. If you don’t do it, you are obviously exposed to other teams becoming stronger. I am hoping and I am confident we will make the right signings. There are not so many top players and a few clubs will probably be after the same players,” said Kompany in a recent interview.
