The boss man at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has said that replacing Vincent Kompany at halftime in the game against Manchester United came on the heels of the player’s request that he should be changed.

The game saw Manchester City defeated by Manchester United by a goal to nil. Kompany had complained that he was tired which had led to his change in the match.

The 30 year old defender had made his second start this season in this match after coming off from a groin strain sometime in September.

“He told us he is tired and was not ready to play the second half. The important thing is he is not injured – that is a good step.” Guardiola said.

Recent seasons have seen Kompany struggle with shin and calf injuries but the captain of Guardiola’s side has promised to be entirely honest with the medical staff in respect to any injuries he sustains. Continue reading GUARDIOLA: VINCENT KOMPANY ASKED TO BE REPLACED

Vincent Kompany Keeps Up His Fitness Levels

Many players who stop being active on the field often like to stay behind the curtains even after their professional career comes to an end.

Vincent Kompany is one such player. He was skipper of Man City. Such an illustrious title and achievement definitely cannot have him withdrawing from the scenes completely. Predictably, he is now working with the media for covering Euro 2016 as he recovers from a leg injury. He is also building on his fitness levels at the same time. If you think that the summer job he has taken at Euro 2016 is simply a leisure activity for him, you would be wrong. He has been a skipper and hence, one would expect him to stay active even if he is off the field. He did not lead Belgium this time, but he is definitely working on his fitness problem. Having suffered a thigh injury he might miss out the beginning of the upcoming Premier League season. However, his boss will be pleased to see that the dedicated skipper is taking his fitness seriously and doing what he can to speed up his recovery. He wishes to be part of the new season as soon as he can and that has kept him on an exercise bike as well as working with weights which would help him get back to fighting fitness. He is updating his fitness regime regularly on his Instagram account. Continue reading Vincent Kompany Keeps Up His Fitness Levels

Vincent Kompany will not be offered any role at the Euros

Vincent Kompany, who is currently sidelined with an injury sustained in the match against Real Madrid, will not be offered any role by Belgium.

There was news that the Belgium captain might be accompanying the team in a non-playing role for the Euros, but the Belgium coach has denied these rumors. Indeed, Marc Wilmots has stated that Kompany will not be offered any position at the Euros and that it is important that the player rests properly so as to be able to recover for next season.

This will be a relief for the Manchester City medical staffs who were clearly against the idea that Vincent Kompany goes to the Euros even in a non-playing role. The recent injury was indeed the fifth one sustained by Kompany this season and City would be more than happy that Belgium did not offer any role to their player.

Marc Wilmots admitted that it was a blow for the team to lose a player of his quality and that they will need to cope with his absence.  He added that Vincent Kompany is not only a talented player on the pitch, but he is also a leader for the team.  However, he stated that there is no special role for him at the Euros and that he will be better off resting and preparing himself for the next season.
